BJJ without the intimidation
New to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? You do not need experience, confidence or competition goals to begin. Rogue BJJ Canberra is a non-competition club where safety, clear instruction and personal growth come first.
01
A comfortable place to begin
Expect a warm welcome, small-group instruction, a controlled pace and encouragement from people who want you to feel comfortable on the mat.
Your first week is free, and Mike teaches every session of it — so the person coaching you is the same person each time, and you are not starting again with somebody new on your second visit.
Your starting point
You do not need to feel ready before you begin
Feeling unsure before a first class is completely normal. You might wonder whether you will fit in, whether you will understand the techniques, or what on earth to do when you arrive.
At Rogue you will be welcomed, shown how the session works and guided through the basics. Our Lyneham club focuses on personal growth, physical fitness and mental wellbeing rather than proving who is toughest.
Small-group classes make it easier for coaches to explain techniques clearly and answer questions. Training is controlled, safety comes first, and you build confidence at your own pace. You do not need to arrive experienced or ready to perform.
The Rogue approach
A better way to begin
Good coaching and a supportive environment help new students settle in and keep progressing.
Small groups
Classes are capped at twelve, so you will not be lost in a crowd. Focused sessions allow for quality teaching and personal attention.
Controlled pace
Classes are well paced so you can absorb the details, ask questions and build confidence gradually.
Safety first
We take injury prevention seriously, so you can train consistently and sustainably for years rather than weeks.
People first
You will train with a supportive community that celebrates progress at every level.

Register before you train
Rogue is open to members and to people training their free first week, so we can protect the safety and the culture of the club. Everyone registers before training and acknowledges our code of conduct and member terms.
It means we know who is joining the mat, and it means you know what to expect before you arrive.
