Membership terms
What you are agreeing to when you join. Read the short version first — the full terms are underneath it, and they are what govern your membership.
The short version
Seven things worth knowing before you read the rest
- Notice to leave is four weeks, in writing. You pay for those four weeks.
- If you are injured or unwell and a doctor says you cannot train, you can cancel immediately with a medical certificate. No notice period, no four weeks.
- Adults can pause instead of cancelling — minimum four weeks, a week's notice. On medical grounds there is no maximum.
- Kids and Youth run on the school term, and weekly billing pauses in the holidays. A 10-class pack lasts fifteen weeks, and we can pause or extend that — you do not need a doctor's note to ask.
- If we change the deal, you can leave. A fee rise, a real cut to class availability, or a change of premises gives you 30 days to cancel with no notice period and no penalty.
- If you paid upfront and leave early, you get money back — what you paid, minus the weekly rate for the weeks you trained.
- If we close for five days or more, you are credited your weekly rate for it. A quieter timetable at Christmas is not a closure.

These Membership Terms and Conditions govern the membership and participation arrangements between Rogue Jujitsu Pty Ltd ACN 672 149 316 (“the Studio”, “we”, “us”, “our”) and each person who holds a membership or participates in activities at the Studio (“Member”, “you”).
By registering for a membership or participating in any Studio activity, you agree to be bound by these Membership Terms, the Studio’s Participation Waiver, Risk Acknowledgement and Consent Agreement, Code of Conduct, and Privacy Policy, each of which applies according to its own terms.
1. Membership types and fees
1.1 Adult memberships

Upfront pricing is a published option on the Rogue BJJ Member membership only. It is available on request for the other adult memberships but is not advertised as a price.
The Mastery Program includes twelve private sessions per year with the head coach: six on technique and six on training practice.
1.2 Children’s and Youth memberships
These apply to the Kids class (ages 5 to 9) and the Youth class (ages 10 to 15). Both classes run during ACT school terms only, one class per week. Weekly billing pauses automatically over the school holidays.

There is no upfront term fee. ACT terms vary between nine and eleven weeks, so a single term price would be unfair to one side or the other depending on the calendar. Fees are charged weekly, or by the 10-class pack.
The 10-class pack is ten class credits. Credits may be used by more than one child in the same family, and are not transferable outside the family.
1.3 General
All fees are GST inclusive. We may vary fees on reasonable notice under clause 8.
2. Free first week
A free first week is offered to prospective members who want to try training before committing. It consists of eight sessions taught by the head coach. It is not general access to the timetable.
Registration in advance is required — we do not accept walk-ins. Participation is subject to completing the Participation Waiver and complying with the Code of Conduct.
It is available once per person. Someone who has previously held a membership is not eligible for another.
3. Visitor Pass
A Visitor Pass is available to a person visiting Canberra with no intention of training with us beyond the visit. The test is the Visitor’s intention, not their place of residence. Anyone who may become a member, wherever they live, is directed to the free first week under clause 2 instead.
The fee is $80 per week, GST inclusive. Visitors may attend the head coach’s classes and Open Mat sessions only, and must complete the Participation Waiver and comply with the Code of Conduct.
4. Membership obligations
To become a Member you must complete registration, sign the Participation Waiver, agree to comply with the Code of Conduct, and pay the applicable fee.
Members must comply with the Code of Conduct at all times on the premises or in Studio activities; must keep their health declaration and emergency contact details current; and must tell us about any change in health status that may affect safe training.
5. Validity and pausing — children’s and Youth prepaid products
The 10-class pack is valid for fifteen weeks from purchase — the longest possible ACT school term plus four weeks.
We may pause or extend that validity on request. This discretion is exercised only in your favour, and requests are typically granted for injury, illness or absence. You do not have to provide documentation to ask, though we may ask for context.
Pausing and extending is the main remedy where a prepaid product cannot be used for reasons other than a medical condition. It operates in place of the suspension provisions in clause 9, which do not apply to these products.
6. Cancellation — adult memberships
6.1 Ordinary cancellation
A Member on a weekly adult membership may cancel by giving four weeks’ written notice to roguebjjstudios@gmail.com. The membership continues and fees remain payable during the notice period.
6.2 Medical cancellation
A Member unable to continue training due to a medical condition may cancel with immediate effect on providing a medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner confirming they are unable to train. No further fees are payable from the date we receive it.
6.3 Refund of upfront adult fees
Where adult fees were paid upfront under clause 1.1 and the Member cancels before the end of the prepaid term:
Refund = Amount paid − (Member’s weekly rate × Weeks of access taken) − (Member’s weekly rate × 4 weeks)
- “Member’s weekly rate” is the weekly fee for their membership type at the date of cancellation.
- “Weeks of access taken” means complete weeks from the start of the prepaid term to cancellation, excluding weeks suspended under clause 9.
The four-week deduction does not apply to a medical cancellation under clause 6.2. In that case: Amount paid − (Member’s weekly rate × Weeks of access taken).

Where the calculation produces zero or less, no refund is payable and no further amount is owed by the Member to the Studio.
6.4 Mastery Program — adjustment for private sessions taken
On cancellation of a Mastery membership, the refund under clause 6.3 is further reduced by the value of private sessions already taken in the current annual period. Each is valued at $130. Where the adjusted refund is zero or less, no refund is payable and nothing further is owed.
6.5 Your right to cancel if we change the deal
Where we make a material change, a Member may cancel without penalty within 30 days of receiving notice of it. A material change includes a fee increase, a significant reduction in class availability, or a change of premises.
Cancellation takes effect immediately on written notice. Where adult fees were paid upfront: Amount paid − (Member’s weekly rate × Weeks of access taken), with no four-week deduction. The Mastery adjustment in clause 6.4 still applies.
7. Refunds — children’s and Youth prepaid products
The 10-class pack is non-refundable except as set out below. Where a prepaid product cannot be used for a reason other than a medical condition, the remedy is to pause or extend it under clause 5.
Where a child is unable to train due to a medical condition, the unused portion is refunded on providing a medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner confirming that.
Unused portion = Price paid ÷ Total classes in the pack × Classes unused
- For the term, “total classes in the term” is the number of classes scheduled in that ACT school term.
- For the 10-class pack, it is ten.
- “Classes unused” is what remains as at the date we receive the medical certificate.
The refund is paid within a reasonable time of us receiving the certificate. Clause 6.3 does not apply to these products.
8. Suspension or termination for breach
We may suspend or terminate a membership where a Member breaches the Code of Conduct or these Terms, or engages in conduct that poses a risk to the safety of others.
Suspension is available as a sanction in addition to termination — we may suspend for a specified period as a first or intermediate response. Before suspending or terminating for breach we will, where practicable, give the Member an opportunity to respond. Where a membership is terminated for breach, no refund of prepaid fees is payable.
9. Suspension — adult memberships
This applies to adult weekly and upfront memberships only. It does not apply to the children’s and Youth term or 10-class pack, which are governed by clause 5.
A Member may request a suspension by giving at least one week’s written notice. The minimum is four weeks.
On medical grounds supported by a certificate there is no maximum; we may ask for an updated certificate after 12 months of continuous suspension if the Member has not indicated an intention to return. On non-medical grounds the maximum is 12 weeks in any 12-month period.
Fees are paused during a suspension, and for upfront memberships the term is extended by its duration. This is a published entitlement available to all adult Members.
10. Fee variations and Studio changes
We may vary fees by giving at least four weeks’ written notice. Variations do not apply to a 10-class pack already purchased, or to adult fees already paid upfront; the varied fee applies to purchases made after the notice period. A Member who does not wish to continue at the varied fee may cancel under clause 6.5.
We may vary the timetable, programs and instructors from time to time. An adjusted or reduced timetable — including variations on public holidays or over holiday periods — is not a closure under clause 10.3, and does not of itself amount to a material change under clause 6.5. A significant reduction in class availability, as distinct from a temporary or seasonal adjustment, is a material change.
Where we close entirely for five or more consecutive days (excluding public holidays on which we would not ordinarily operate), each Member is credited or refunded their own weekly rate for each complete week of closure. For the 10-class pack, the credit is calculated at that product’s per-class rate (price paid ÷ total classes). It is calculated at the Member’s individual rate, not a flat figure.
11. Privacy
The Studio collects and handles personal information, including health information, in accordance with its Privacy Policy. By becoming a Member you consent to that.
12. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Membership Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Studio’s liability for loss or damage arising out of your membership or participation is limited as set out in the Participation Waiver.
13. Changes to these terms
The Studio may update these Membership Terms from time to time. Members will be given reasonable notice of material changes. Continued membership after the effective date constitutes acceptance, subject to your right to cancel under clause 6.5.
14. Governing law
These Membership Terms are governed by the laws of the Australian Capital Territory and the Commonwealth of Australia. You submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the ACT courts.
